Somewhere between the feelings of “I can’t wait for summer” and “I want every student to feel confident about this year,” we have designed our summer enrichment classes. I have spoken all year about the impacts of COVID on instruction and learning, and you as parents have witnessed the times when your child struggled and those times they excelled in our virtual school world. As we move closer to the end of this school year, St. Patrick Catholic School wants to ensure that our students are ready to confidently step into the next one.
Please read the attached registration materials for what we are calling our Summer Bridge. We will offer two sessions: June 21-25 for incoming Kindergarten – 3rd graders and August 9-13 for incoming 4th through 8th graders. The sessions will run from 9 am to 12 pm and students who register will be expected to attend every day. Our subjects will be reading and math, with a focus on essential skills that teachers have identified as needing more instruction. Small-group tutorials (led by Bellarmine Prep Honor Society students) will allow direct help for individual students, using our Summer Climb content. Our current teachers will recommend summer sessions for those they think would benefit but I hope that everyone considers this a bridge to greater understanding for their children.
The registration process that we are beginning now will allow us to determine family interest, which will in turn help shape the details of the program, including the daily schedule. We encourage you to register your children for both reading and math, or just one or the other. If you are choosing just one subject area, we will let you know at a later date which part of the morning your child will attend.
I am really happy that we can offer this at no cost to you. You have been so supportive of us every day, all year long, and I hope you know how much I appreciate that support. Call or email me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions. COVID guidelines and health protocols will be followed and will determine the programming.
