Materials Provided: The
adopted text is " Buen Viaje!" from Glenco/McGraw-Hill with
accompanying workbook, videos, quizzes, and tests.
Materials Needed: Besides the
regularly required student supplies, each student in Spanish will be
required to have a small Spanish/English dictionary and to
maintain a folder of his/her work.
Additional Activities: To complement
the course work, extra projects and events will take place
throughout the year. These include oral and written reports, food
fiestas, a restaurant field trip, Spanish skits, translations, and
cultural videos.
Grading Policies: Grades are based
on class participation, oral work, classwork, homework, quizzes,
tests, and comenzando (beginning) activities. Homework is given four
times a week. This includes memory work and studying notes.
Homework (30% of grade): Homework is
always due at the start of the class the following day it is
assigned, unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
If homework is not turned in when it is due, the
student can turn it in after school that day (3:00 PM), but the
grade will go down one whole grade. If the student does not turn in
The assignment
the day it is due, he/she MUST make up work and turn it in the next
day and the student will
get partial credit. If the student doesn't make up
work the next day, he/she will receive zero for the assignment.
The homework will be graded on
correctness, completeness, legibility, and neatness. Each question
that is not completed must have adequate work shown to demonstrate
that a VALID ATTEMPT has been made by the student to
answer the question to obtain partial credit. Makeup work:
It is the student's responsibility to obtain missed assignments and
to complete them on time. Makeup work is due within TWO
school days of return to class from an excused absence. Not
accepted after this period, unless special arrangements have been
made.
Testing: There will be a quiz (20%
of grade) or major test (25% of grade) given weekly. In
addition, oral dialogue in Spanish will be required (20% of
grade).
Comenzando (5% of grade): Short
"beginning" activities daily, which review material and often lead
into the lesson of the day. Daily grades are averaged into a weekly
score and recorded.
