Dear Parents
Welcome to the month of May. April went by so fast it was a
blur. We have about six more weeks of school. Many thanks for
having your children on time and at school during the WASL Testing.
The students did such a great job. I am very proud of them for
working so hard on the testing. A "Big Thank" to all the parents
who provided the wonderful snacks, and Mrs. Harris who made it all
happen. Please remember our 4th grade Retreat is May 9th. It is
all about being faith filled in Christ. Mrs. Ward has kindly
consented to be a part of our retreat. She will do a awesome
job. Also, we will be having a Science field trip on the 21st of
May, information will be coming out soon on that trip.
HOMEWORK: when homework is assigned Monday through Thursday
it is due the next day.
Curriculum Overview:
Religion--children are taught the gospel values of love,
forgiveness, honesty, compassion, and service, as well as the
difference between right and wrong. In this way, we fulfill
Jesus' mandate to teach them all I have commanded you.
English--grammar and cursive handwriting
Writing--Narrative--Expository--Persuasive Assignments
Geography--mapping-continents-states by region-Washington State History
Literature--will operate throughout the year. We will read
novels, short stories, poetry, non fiction , and will create their own
story. I want the students to read at least thirty minutes or more
each day. I will have at least three book reports during the
year.
Spelling-- words will be sent home in the Friday Folders to study
for the coming week. Spelling pretest will be given on Monday; the
final will be on Friday.
There will be a folder sent home every Friday and it will contain
corrected work, the weekly spelling sheet with announcements for the
upcoming week and assignments, the Blarney Stone, any important notices, and book
order forms. Orders for books are due by the next Friday. Please make
checks payable to the book club and not to me personally. On the first
Friday of every month it will also contain a letter to you like this
one.
Students will have daily homework Monday through Thursday, that will
be due the next day. Homework is
not assigned for weekends or during school vacations. Homework
assignments vary based on our daily work.
Drop off, Pick up, Carpool: Students in grades 4-8 are
not picked up at 3:00p.m. on the playground unless they are picked up
with a younger brother of sister. Fourth grades join older
students in being picked up on Yakima Street (top of the hill).
Please clarify for your child where he or she will be picked up from
school.
Recesses, Nutrition, and Lunch Breaks: Our snack break
will be 9:55 each day. Morning recess is 10:05 to 10:20.
Our lunch time is 11:40-12:00, and recess will be 12-12:30p.m.
everyday. The students will be given the chance to wash hands
before lunch.
Absent? When a 4S student is absent, assignments will be collected on
his or her desk. They will be available for family pick up from the
classroom after school, unless I receive a message to forward
assignments to the office, to a carpool, or to a sibling.
Birthdays: Treats are welcome, but optional.
I welcome your concerns and questions all through the year. You can
contact me by note through your child
or email (misscindy@saintpats.org). I will respond within the
day, if possible.
